A funny story about being brave, standing up for yourself, and being yourself.

Molly Lou Melon is short and clumsy, has buck teeth, and has a voice that sounds like a bullfrog being squeezed by a boa constrictor. She doesn't mind. Her grandmother has always told her to walk proud, smile big, and sing loud, and she takes that advice to heart.

But then Molly Lou has to start in a new school. A horrible bully picks on her on the very first day, but Molly Lou Melon knows just what to do about that.

I found the art horrifying. My niece makes me read it to her 20 times a day. Help.

We often tell children (and adults) that being unique is special and that being different is ok. Molly Lou Melon is different than her peers and starting in a new school. With self confidence and words of wisdom from family, she makes friends because she is a kind person. ( )

I really love children's books. I have a small collection of them and continue to buy them as an adult, because I love the magic of the words in them and the illustrations. When people say they are in a reading slump, the first advice I give is to pick up a children's book!

Listened to Dolly Parton read this as part of her "Goodnight With Dolly" series. I love her soothing voice and how she always sings a little. https://donate.imaginationlibrary.com/goodnight-with-dolly/

This book is about a little girl with buck teeth, she's extremely short, and she has the biggest eyes of everyone in her class. She stands out to say the least. Even though some of the kids in her new class made fun of her, she displayed all of her wonderful talents and eventually made friends with all of them.

I love this book because it teaches kids that it's okay to stand out and be different from everyone else because being like everyone else is boring.

Molly Lou Melon is an quirky little girl who embraces who she is with the guidance of her grandma. When she moves to a new school she is confronted several times by a bully, but she never lets him dull her shine. A sweet story about believing in yourself and ignoring doubters. ( )

This is a great book about a girl named Molly Lou. Molly Lou is short, has buck teeth, not a normal voice, and a couple other flaws, but her grandma has taught her to love herself. So she does! When Molly is forced to move she is faced with dealing with bullies at school trying to bring her down, but it does not work. This story paints a picture of confidence and shows a strong bond between a girl and her grandma. I think it is a great story to share with the class to teach them to love themselves and the only opinion that matters is your own. ( )

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is one of my favorite read alouds. In this story, Molly Lou Melon, the shortest girl in the first grade, has buck teeth, a froggy singing voice, fumble fingers, and loves every part of herself thanks to her grandma. Molly is soon faced with a difficult challenge, she has to leave everything she knows, including her friends, and move to a new town and new school. The school bully tries everything he can to bring Molly Lou Melon down, but her confidence holds strong through it all, and she comes out on top every time. The illustrations are bold, and funny, and an all time favorite of mine! ( )

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is one of my favorite read alouds. A girl who has many differences with a great support figure in her life to encourage her to embrace her differences. When she encounters a bully, she stands tall and holds her confidence. Molly Lou Mellon teaches the bully a lesson by continuing to be herself. This is a great book for teaching self-confidence! ( )

This book is a great story about a girl, Molly Lou Melon. She has buck teeth, a frog voice, is small, and loves to sing! She is different than her classmates in her new town and despite a bully, she rises above with some encouragement from her grandmother! Great book about having confidence in who you are because we all have strengths! ( )

Molly Lou Melon is a really, very small girl; Smaller than the rest of her classmates. She has buck teeth and has an affinity for singing, even if she isn't very good at it. She is too confident to care about the bullies, however, and thanks to her grandmothers encouragement, stands tall with self-esteem. This is a great book to read to children to teach about overcoming obstacles, accepting oneself, and addressing bullying. The illustrations are wonderfully done, colorful and adorable.

Little Molly Lou is smaller than all the other kids in her class, she has buck teeth, and can't sing a good note. But, her grandmother taught her that, if she carries herself with confidence, the world will look up to her and if she smiles, the whole world smiles, too. All is well and good until the Melon family moves to a new house, and Molly Lou begins a new school. Since the students don't know her bright spirit, the bully is only too keen to tear her down based on appearances. The bully does not stop her from being herself and gaining new friends. The characters sprit foreshadows the plot of the story, that even though she is different Molly Lou's confident can get her through anything. ( )

Molly Lou Melon doesn't look or sound like her other friends, but with the encouragement of her grandmother, she gains self-esteem. Once she starts at a new school and bully starts picking on her, she uses her confidence to overcome and resolve the bullying. Molly Lou Melon charms her new classmates with her personality and talents. ( )

Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon is a story about a girl who moves to a new town. Molly Lou Melon gets teased by the class bully Ronald Durkin. She uses the advice her grandma gave her before she moved to prove Ronald Durkin wrong. It is an endearing story about a young girl not letting the class bully get in the way of her doing what she wants. ( )

In this book Molly Lou Melon is in first grade. She lives with her grandmother and lives by the lessons her grandmother has taught her. Therefore, while she is in first grade she is trying not be self conscious about her physical features. At her new school in first grade there is a student that tries to bully Molly Lou Melon. However, Molly Lou dent let him and gains confidence that allows her to show off her skills. This book was inspiring to read because Molly Lou Melon did not let anything stand in her way of overcoming obstacles even though she could have. She follows her grandmother's life lessons so that she is able to thrive and not let bullies, her physical appearance, etc. hold her back from doing what she wanted to do and showing off her skills. This book shows a little girl that knows her self worth and has difficulties through her journey but in the end she knows her value and that's something I'd want children to read about because it's really important in today's society. ( )

It was a good book that showed development in the character Molly Melon. It showed her courage to stand up to the bully in the book while also listening to what her grandma is saying.

This book is about a little girl whom has looks to her that some people find unpleasant. But Molly has many strengths regardless of her looks. When she starts at a new school she is bullied but by the end she learns to have confidence and loves herself. As well as the other children begin to like her strengths as well. This book teaches children how bullying can really hurt someone, as well as self-confidence.
